Home School Scholar Program
Participate in the San Diego Museum of Man's Home School Scholar program. Museum galleries will come alive with interactive programs taught by Museum educators and designed especially for home schooled families. The Home School Scholar program will be in full swing starting in September and will occur once every two months during the school year, covering a variety of topics.
Sessions for each topic run from 10:00 a.m. to noon for children in grades K-12. Registration for all four sessions begins in September 2008. Please call the Education Department at (619) 239-2001 ext. 31 to register.
The cost per program is $12.00 per student ($10.00 for Museum members). Parents accompanying students will be admitted for $3 (children under the age of 14 are required to be accompanied by a parent or gaurdian). Museum members are admitted free of charge. Each class is limited to 35 participants. Classes which do not reach the minimum of 15 participants one week before the program will be cancelled. Reserve your spot today.

Tuesday, September 23, 2008 Explore Ancient Egypt and The Art of Chinese Woodblock Prints
Home school scholars will work with a Museum Education Specialist to learn about the art of ancient Egypt and woodblock prints of China. After a guided presentation of our Ancient Egypt and People, Prints, & Politics exhibitions, students will then try their own hand at making artwork from these diverse cultures.

Tuesday, November 25, 2008 Beyond Reasonable Drought, the Kumeyaay and Adaptation to the Environment
Learn how Native Peoples of the Southwest survived in such an arid climate. What did they do to adapt to the environment? Visit our permanent Kumeyaay exhibition to learn more about local native adaptations. Find out what you can do today to help conserve water in San Diego.
Tuesday, February 24, 2009 Archaeology in Latin America – Gods & Gold and The Magic of the Maya
Discover artifacts from the Aztec, Maya, and Inca. View trephined skulls and learn about ancient skull surgery. Students will explore the Gods & Gold and Maya exhibitions and work on a scavenger hunt. Then students will learn archaeological methods in a mock dig site.
Tuesday, April 28, 2009 Physical Anthropology – Footsteps Through Time and Skull Stories
Travel on an interactive scientific journey through time. Touch replicas of ancient stone tools, set your eyes on cave art in a Cro-Magnon cave, and travel through the Time Tunnel. Students will have a chance to view and handle hominid skull casts and learn how archaeologists study these amazing finds. Then, visit the famous collection of Arles Hrdlicka Skulls from Peru on view in Skull Stories. Learn about physical anthropology, ancient skull surgery, and diseases by looking at bones.
