December Nights
Friday and Saturday
December 5 and 6, 2008
30 Years of Holiday Magic! The City of San Diego and the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership have announced that Balboa Park December Nights, Balboa Park's holiday gift to San Diego, will take place for the 31st year on Friday and Saturday, December 5 and 6, 2008. Participating museums, including the Museum of Man, will be free to the public from 5:00 to 9:00 each evening. This year, December Nights has extended hours of 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Friday, and noon to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday. Barona is the 2008 Presenting Sponsor, having stepped forward again this year to provide major support for the beloved holiday celebration.
As part of the long-standing tradition of Christmas on the Prado, during the evening hours the Museum of Man Plaza will again be transformed into the holiday traditions of Sweden, with the hard work and support of the Swedish Women's Educational Association. Wonderful Swedish foods, including genuine Swedish meatballs, open-faced sandwiches, rosettes served with fresh whipped cream and preserves, and the popular hot, spiced Swedish Christmas wine called glögg will be available. The Santa Lucia Procession continues to be one of the largest draws of the Park-wide event. Performances are scheduled for 6:00 and 8:00 each evening.
Balboa Park December Nights presented by Barona is hosted in partnership by the City of San Diego Office of Special Events, Park and Recreation Department, and other City departments; the San Diego Business Improvement District Council; and the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership.
