Culture, Coffee, and Conversation: Great Mural Cave Art of Baja
Aug 3, 2010 – 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Carole Melum, a docent at the Musem of Man since 1991, will be describing the mysterious beatuy of the cave murals in Baja California on August 3rd. The cave paintings of Baja rank the finest found anywhere in the ancient world. The great mural style is found in more than 600 caves and shelters in the canyons of Baja and could date back as much as 7,500 years ago. The murals reflect a highly adapted culture that thrived in the remote and highly inhospitable landscape of our southern neighbor, Baja California. Lecture takes place in the Gill Auditorium, 4-5 p.m. FREE
