The Tower After Hours: Brazil Celebration
Thursday, March 25, 2004

On March 25, the Museum was filled with the music, dance, martial arts, and cuisine of South America’s largest country—Brazil. Visitors arriving early were entertained by members of the samba pagode band Sol e Mar, who played drums outside the Museum before the event began at 6:00 p.m. Once the doors opened, Luiza Marques and Brazil Tropical soothed attendees with Bossa Nova-inspired music and singing.

After that, members of Capoeira Resistencia thrilled the crowd with a display of the acrobatic, Afro-Brazilian dance/martial art of capoeira, with its blend of African and indigenous roots. To finish off the entertainment for the evening, Sol e Mar, featuring singer Marquinho Pereira, performed high-energy samba pagode music that filled the Museum with intense, driving rhythms. Food was provided with the assistance of collaborating partner the Brazil Club of San Diego, and featured feijoada, a black-bean dish that is the national dish of Brazil.
