Special Events - Tower After Hours: Japanese Spring Festival

Haru Matsuri

EXPERIENCE THE TOWER AFTER HOURS. Haru Matsuri: A Japanese Spring Festival took place on Thursday, April 28th at the San Diego Museum of Man as part of its ongoing "Tower After Hours" series celebrating San Diego's ethnic diversity.

Haru Matsuri

During Haru Matsuri, the main floor of the museum became center stage with a wide array of performances by the Tayama Koto Ensemble, the San Diego Japan Mixed Chorus, Sunset Cliffs Aikido, the Asayake Taiko drumming group from UCSD, and the high-energy "Soran-bushi" Dance Group which includes students from several San Diego schools. The Ohara School of Ikebana gave demonstrations on the art of ikebana throughout the evening, and attendees had the opportunity to see some of the museum's most current exhibits.

Haru Matsuri

A display case featuring Japanese history and culture, along with background on the origins and current contributions of Japanese-Americans in San Diego, was installed just inside the entrance of the Museum during the month of April. The display was made possible by a generous loan from the Japanese Friendship Garden Society of San Diego. Don Estes from the Japanese American Historical Society of San Diego provided historical information.
