THE TOWER AFTER HOURS Presents MABUHAY PHILIPPINES
Thursday, July 29, 2004
EXPERIENCE THE TOWER AFTER HOURS, the Museum's ongoing series of events celebrating San Diego's unique and vibrant ethnic mix.
On Thursday, July 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., the Museum of Man 2004 Tower After Hours series continued by celebrating the creative and culinary arts of the Philippines. Visitors enjoyed live displays of the grace and skill of Filipino folk dances, performed by the PASACAT dance company. The Samahan Rondalla Musical Ensemble showcased the beauty of Spanish-influenced Filipino rondalla music, and the Pakaraguian Kulintang Ensemble enchanted us by performing indigenous kulintang gong music from the southern Philippines. Exciting displays of Filipino martial arts were also performed by the Iliukiu Martial Arts group.
Local Filipino estaurants provided a sampling of traditional food and beverages, with their unique blends of indigenous, Asian, and Spanish flavors, to tempt the palate.
Mabuhay is a commonly used greeting that means “long live.”

The Mabuhay Philippines event in July brought together
various traditional Filipino dance and music groups
from San Diego.
Stop by after work, or drop in on your way to dinner or a show. The Tower After Hours series
presents a unique opportunity to make new friends and catch up with old
ones, with the vibrant mix of music, dance, food, and drink taking
participants on exciting journeys to far corners of the world. Proceeds
from each Tower After Hours evening will benefit Museum programs. The
cost of The Tower After Hours is $20 for general admission, $15 for
members and students. Admission is for adults ages 21 and over only,
and includes food, drink, and entertainment. Tickets may be obtained in
advance by calling the Museum at (619) 239-2001.
In addition to
immersing themselves in the music, dance, and cuisine of these
cultures, those attending can explore the Museum's
exceptional exhibits at no additional cost. The new year truly promises
to be one of surprises and excitement at the Museum of Man. Mark your
calendars now for the next program in The Tower After Hours series.
Mabuhay Philippines was presented in collaboration with the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) – San Diego Chapter and the Council of Philippine American Organizations of San Diego County (COPAO), and is sponsored by San Diego Gas & Electric and San Diego National Bank – Southeastern Division
