Special Events - Tower After Hours: Swedish Celebration

THE SAN DIEGO MUSEUM OF MAN
Presents

SWEDISH CELEBRATION, January 26, 6-9 p.m.

EXPERIENCE TOWER AFTER HOURS™, an ongoing series of evening events celebrating San Diego’s unique and vibrant ethnic mix.

On Thursday, January 26, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., we were pleased to present Swedish Celebration with Swedish food tastings, drink, music, and dance. Many stopped by after work for a cool beverage and hot appetizers as Tower After Hours presented a unique opportunity to make new friends and catch up with old ones, with a vibrant mix of music, dance, food, and drink. In addition to immersing themselves in the music, dance, and cuisine of Sweden, those attending were able to explore the Museum's exceptional exhibits at no additional cost.

For this festive event, San Diegans celebrated with the San Diego Ylva Elias Quintet (vocal: Ylva Elias, guitar: Joey Carano, bass: Rob Thorsen, drums: Phil Rowley, and horn: Chris Klich), The Swedish Choir in San Diego, fiddlers Paul Johnson and Annie Grace, and The Balboa Park Folk Dancers. Toastmaster Anne-Charlotte Harvey talked about Swedish culture and presented the night's program on Swedish traditional folk dresses and the Swedish organizations in San Diego. A DVD with famous cook Tina Nordstrom's New Scandinavian Cooking series was shown, and members from the Swedish organizations also displayed handicrafts for sale.

Proceeds from each Tower After Hours evening benefit Museum programs. The cost of The Tower After Hours is $20 for general admission, $15 for students, and $10 for Museum members. Admission is for adults ages 21 and over only, and includes entrance and exhibits, traditional food tastings, open bar for traditional drinks, and live entertainment and DJ! Tickets may be purchased at the door, or obtained in advance by calling the Museum at (619) 239-2001.

Swedish Celebration was produced in collaboration with the Swedish Women's Educational Association, the House of Sweden in Balboa Park, Digital Vikings, the San Diego Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce, and the Swedish Consulate of San Diego.
