Today we choose to be known as the San Diego Museum of Humankind in honor of important topics brought to the foreground of national discourse during this election.
Anthropologist Ruth Benedict wrote that the purpose of anthropology is to make the world safe for human difference. We embrace that idea today and look to a future where our name reflects those values in a permanent way.
Our Museum is a safe space for discourse about topics that matter to our community. With that in mind, we will be open today free of charge for anyone who wants a place to process, reflect or escape for a few hours.
