Volunteer
Volunteers play a vital role at the Museum of Man. They assist the staff in a variety of roles, from acting as Museum ambassadors in the community to assisting the Collections Department with conservation efforts. We are always looking for dedicated and passionate individuals with an interest in anthropology, history, and education to help us with our mission of teaching people about people.
Please fill out the volunteer application or docent application and submit it to Monika Wert at mwert@museumofman.org or call 619-239-2001, ext. 15 for more information. The Museum is currently recruiting volunteers to assist at special events, in the Collections Department, and as docents.
Event Volunteers:
The Museum puts on a large amount of special events each year including Tower After Hours, Indian Fair, Rock Art, educational programs, and special donor and member events. Many of these events take place in the evenings or on the weekends.
Collections Volunteers:
The Collections department is seeking volunteers to assist as Digitization Coordinators, Textile Cleaners, and Textile Photography Assistants. Collections volunteers benefit from specialized training and working behind-the-scenes!
Docents:
If you love culture and history, please consider sharing your passion while enriching the educational experiences of Museum visitors by becoming a Museum Docent. Our docents lead general public tours of the Museum and its exhibits. Docents also have the opportunity to specialize in a particular area of interest and to share that information with school groups and special tours.
