Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the San Diego Museum of Man! As the area’s only anthropology museum; we collect, preserve, interpret, and communicate evidence of human development and creativity to advance understanding and respect for all cultures. Our mission is one of “inspiring human connections by exploring the human experience.” The hours you contribute not only help the advancement of this mission, but help enrich the experience of our visitors through thoughtful interactions.
Museum volunteers and interns perform a broad range of functions in a variety of departments. Each volunteer opportunity is different, and has its own unique set of responsibilities, skills and experience. Many volunteer opportunities do not require an anthropology background, and we provide job-specific training. While a background in anthropology may not be necessary, enthusiasm and a commitment to enhancing our visitors’ experience is!
