Volunteer Summer Camp Counselor

It’s that time of year again! This is a great opportunity for High School students! Join us as a Volunteer Counselor at the Museum of Man for the 2012 Summer Camp season. We are looking for fun, kid-friendly, and responsible students to help the Museum Educators with exciting summer camps for kids grades K-6. Guide exciting weeklong adventures through Egypt with “Mysterious Mummies” or take a tasty trip with authentic cuisines in “Cookin’ up Culture”. Volunteering is an excellent way to gain community service hours and valuable experience that you can add to your applications and resumes! Volunteer opportunities are available morning and afternoon all summer long.

*Volunteers must participate for a minimum of one full week of camp, and must be at least 16 years old to apply. All applications must be submitted by June 11, 2012.

Gallery Guide

Gallery Guides are stationed in the Museums galleries and are there to help visitors get the most out of their visit. Gallery Guides interact with museum visitors by answering questions and sharing information about the museum, its exhibits, and its programs. By spending time in any one of our permanent exhibits, a Gallery Guide becomes a source of information for visitors – pointing out interesting artifacts, sharing intriguing facts, sometimes even giving impromptu mini-tours.

Educational Programs Docent

The permanent exhibits at the San Diego Museum of Man meet a variety of California state education standards, and educational programs are designed to meet each grade level’s needs through engaging, hands-on museum experiences; making SDMoM an ideal destination for all classes. After spending time as a Gallery Guide, those interested in assisting education programs can be trained to lead group tours of our permanent exhibits, offer hands-on artifact discoveries, direct workshops and/or give presentations to students of all ages. Education programs are always pre-arranged, happen Mon-Fri, between 10am and 3pm, and last between 1-2 hours.
